6th Day of Kindergarten!

We celebrated our first class birthday on our 6th day of kindergarten!  Happy 6th Birthday my friend!  We read a big book called I Like Me! by Nancy Carlson.  The children practiced writing their name starting with a capital letter and then trying lowercase.  Each child drew and colored a self portrait.  These will be hung in our kindergarten hallway for all to enjoy!  We also read a book called Will I Have a Friend?  Our Scholastic News reading work and discussions focused on friends.  If we read and discuss a Scholastic News (aka Let's Find Out), the paper copy will most likely come home.  If time allows, it will hopefully help you connect with your child about their school day.  Ask them to tell you about it, some children can read it to you.  This will come for most with time.  In honor of our first birthday we completed a birthday dot-to-dot cupcake and completed a Class Age Graph. We are learning about graphs and how they provide important information.

Our first birthday in our classroom!  We sang a couple of songs to the birthday girl and created a book to send home with her.  Each child looks through a collection of birthday books and choses one for their home library.  They also receive a birthday card, crown, bookmark and choose a pencil, sticker and bracelet.

Exploring the garden at recess (yellow zone day).

When we can we eat our snack outdoors.  Please remember that it is VERY helpful if your child has a separate snack box from their lunch box.  The children have so much to manage: cushion, water bottle & snack box.  Whenever possible, please pack what your child will need (a napkin, a spoon, a fork, a straw etc.) in their snack box.  As you can imagine, it can be tricky when we get settled outside and then one of these things are needed.  Having the snack box separate from the lunch box helps define what should be eaten when. With this definition they are able to do more independently.  Snack is approximately 20 minutes.   Please do not pack too many choices!  When there are too many choices they have trouble stopping.

Thank you for your support!

A digital dot-to-dot before we try our own on paper the desks.

Reading our Let's Find Out.
These readers go in the children's blue book bins as a book that they know and can read on their own.
Eventually when we have built up our book bin these will come home.

Sketching her own cupcake!  Woo Hoo!

The yoga mats are a choice, but VERY helpful at quiet time.  They offer a comfy spot to rest.
Quiet instrumental music is played and. the lights are turned down.  He is quietly enjoying a Pete the Cat book.  The yoga mat offers a cushy place to sit or lay down as needed.  The children can use their cushion as a pillow.  It helps define their personal space.
We are keeping the yoga mats rolled up in your child's locker,
so the have it available on the days that they wish to use it.
I appreciate the support!

This graph is a changing graph.  We will move a cupcake on each birthday.

Each child is offered a book and certificate from Mr. Manjourides and Ms. Forrey-Pettit.

I hope you had a fun day birthday girl!  🧁🎈
