Recycling with EcoMaine
We had some visitors from our school recycling program visit our classroom Friday to talk to us about recycling and composting, particularly in our school cafeteria. Students watched some brief videos from the EcoMaine recycling center to see the recycling and sorting process in action. They also got to practice their own sorting game with various items they might see in the lunch room. They were given some take home information and a recycled pencil.

Enjoying the fall weather!

Pretend play: Making bird nests together in nature land.

Science
Our first science lessons in kindergarten are geared towards answering the questions:

"What is science?" and "What is a scientist?"

We have created a class book which will be coming home to share with you.
I hope you can take a few minutes to read the book with your child and then pack it in their home/school folder to be returned to school, so that another child may bring it home to share. We hope you enjoy our book!

Mr. Davis (our Speech Pathologist) teaches a lesson on hearing sounds, differentiating sounds, sorting sounds and sorting words based on initial sounds. Thank you Mr. Davis!

We have received our first link!
Mr. Shields sent this link our way!
We will certainly turn it into the

office to be added to the
school hallway link chain!
Snack time is daily mid morning. It is very helpful when you pack a healthy snack that your child enjoys in a bag or box separate from their lunch. Having water bottles at school is working well. We have a nice filling station in the lobby. We try to remember to take water bottles home on Friday to be washed.

Has your child shared that we have practiced evacuating the school building?
Our first time we practiced with a soft bell, just our class. The second drill was whole school (no alarm, just an announcement on the intercom). The children did very well both times.

Choice time is typically 30 minutes in the afternoon. We have begun using a choice time board to select where children are working and playing. Choice Time (also referred to as center time) is a favorite time for many children!
