Have a wonderful winter break with your family! Your children are a joy to teach, they are working very hard socially and academically.
I hope they enjoy their "down time".
I look forward to seeing them in 2018! Happy New Year! 🎉
Guided Reading
Teacher Time:
Carefully tracking print as she reads aloud.
Teacher Time:
Reading a new book at your own pace.
Working together to solve unknown words.
What strategy should we try?

Teacher Time:
Practicing reading smooth with her eyes, remembering the
information read to be ready to discuss the story at the end.
We practice a good retell at the end.

When your child reads to you at home,
please listen to their retell.
Teacher Time:
Practicing reading the repeating pattern smooth.

When paper books are signed out in your child's

reading journal, please treat them like our "regular

books". If they are signed out, they should come

back to school. It means we have more work
to do with them, thanks!
Word Work:
Independent work that practices high frequency words.
It is helpful if you can ask your child what word they are learning
when these come home. If they are unable to read it, try keeping it
around to check in later. Maybe it could hang in their room
or on the refrigerator? As a class we are working on being
able to read and write a larger core of sight words.
Word Work:
Independent work that practices sight words
and offers reading practice. This page will go

Mr. Davis tied his language lesson this month into our science unit on wood. We read Carpenters by Joan Freese. Mr. Davis brought in some of the tools he uses when working with wood. The children were able to try these tools with both soft and hard wood. They loved the hands on lesson! Thank you Mr. Davis!
