First Day in Kindergarten

Our first day in the classroom was very busy! We practiced some of our routines (lockers, hand washing, greeting others, lining up, snack & lunch expectations, playground safety, practicing an evacuation drill, mailboxes, Home/School folder, and more).  We learned about our daily schedule and had our first gym with Mr. Shields! We read The Night Before Kindergarten by Natasha Wing.  We also read The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn and completed projects based on the book.  In the afternoon we enjoyed The King of Kindergarten by Derrick Barnes and made the first day of kindergarten crowns!  The children worked hard and were tired!

We read The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn, discussed the book and our feelings, and completed a project afterward.

Generated whole group

Tracing hands and writing how we felt about the first day of kindergarten!

We read this poem and discussed how an evacuation works.
As a class, we practiced walking to our safe spot and completed all the parts of this drill.

Learning how to properly use the equipment on the playground.

Navigating school lunch in the cafeteria.
Each student will be asked to learn their lunch number.
It would be helpful if you practice at home.
Their lunch number is their student ID number in PowerSchool.

Lunch from home means you can go straight to your lunch spot and get started eating!

Officer David Galvin and Mr. Manjourides supported
the kindergartners on their first day in the lunchroom.

Quiet Time follows lunch.

We read The King of Kindergarten by Derrick Barnes and made kindergarten crowns!
