Read Aloud
A book that reminds us to unconditionally accept another person regardless of their appearance. 
This book has: drama, conflict, and resolution bundled in appealing illustrations.

Monday we went on a walking field trip to The Cape Elizabeth Fire Station.
We watched a fire safety video with firefighter Jake.


Firefighter Sam Berman explains the gear they wear.  
Thank you Bri Fisher (Dylan's mom) for volunteering for this walking field trip.


Volunteer Cape Elizabeth High School firefighter Tyler puts on the gear 
for the children as firefighter Sam Berman explains each piece.
Both are former Pond Cove students.


A reminder that it is firefighter Tyler under the gear and to never hide.  
He would be coming to help.


Firefighter Marissa teaches Stop, Drop, And Roll and each child practiced with her.

The firefighters gave each of the children a sticker.

The firefighters also gave the children a homework task.
Talk with their families regarding the exits in their house.
Learn their families meeting spot outside.
Draw a map.

If the children return the homework it will be put in a drawing.
One child will win a ride to school on the fire truck!
Keep sending them in!

With a series of slides we wrapped up our unit called Our Community.
We looked closely at our unit question and guiding questions.
What does it mean to be a member of a community?
Why is collaboration and working together important?
When is it important to work in a group or independently?

The children know we will be starting a new unit next week, but were asked to think about 
what they can do to continue being a caring member go our classroom community.
