Writing Workshop

On most mornings you can find our class using pictures and words to write independently! We have now completed our second writing unit: Looking Closely: Observing, Labeling, and Listing Like Scientists. Students work hard to think, draw, and write all they know about their topic. The children are listening for letter sounds and writing the letters for the sounds they hear. They are working on adding labels to their their pictures. On Friday we celebrated our writing by sharing our pieces with our writing partner and then the whole class. These pieces are hung in our classroom for all to enjoy!

Reminder: Each child has a reading journal like this one above.
Watch for Reading Journals Materials to come home in your child's Home/School Folder!

1. The student practice reads to an adult for 2 or 3 days.

2. Any adult who listens to the student read can sign the stamp. 

    (It's fun to see several names over time: mom, dad, grandparent, aunt, uncle, babysitter etc.)

3. After 2 or 3 days of practice, please return all materials signed out in the zip loc bag
   via your child's home/school folder.

    

We treat the paper books we create the same as regular published books.
If the book is signed out, we are still working with it,
please return it to school.
