Our first few days in the classroom went well! We practiced our routines (lockers, hand washing, greeting others, lining up, snack & lunch expectations, playground safety, mailboxes, Home/School Folder, and more). On day one they learned about our daily schedule and the children had their first World Language Class (Spanish) and Gym! We read The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn and completed projects based on the book.
Sharing feelings as a whole group. These five different feelings were shared.
Tracing their hands.
Coloring their hand.
Shared how they were feeling on the first day of kindergarten.
They picked a heart sticker for their hand.
These were sent home in your child's Home/School Folder.
Thank you for looking for your child's Home/School Folder each day, cleaning it out,
and sending it back on the next school day!
When your child brings lunch from home they go straight to our three assigned tables and begin eating their lunch. Lunch is 25 minutes. If you think your child may need this whole time to eat, please know that home lunch gives your child the most time to eat. They are not standing in the lunch line.
When your child chooses lunch from school, I will show them the routine: pick a milk, choose the main meal, navigate the fruit and vegetable bar, stop at the cashier to say their lunch number and stop to pick up utensils and condiments needed. This process takes them a little practice, but they are eventually able to do it independently! When your child is ready to try this for the first time drop me a note and I will be there to support them. Their lunch number is their PowerSchool Id. number. It is helpful if they work to memorize this number. It will be their number for all five years at Pond Cove.
Recess follows lunch in the cafeteria.
You may hear your child talk about Mrs. Snyder.
She will supervise the children most days in the cafeteria and the recess that follows. 😍
Day one included the introduction of a few centers after Gym.
The children learned how to plan for a center
and how to responsibly use and put away materials as a team.

Enjoying an Eric Carle book.
Our mornings start with school announcements. It was fun to have happy birthday wishes read over the intercom for a member of our class on the second day of kindergarten! Morning Meeting follows announcements. We sang to the birthday boy and shared the treats he selected. Above was our morning message. The children take turns taking home the morning message. It is one way to connect with your child about their day at school. The message does not come back to school, it can be recycled. The birthday boy was our leader all day!
