Reading choices When time allows, ask your child what they chose to work on during the reading block.

Guided Reading: We are working on
previewing a text well before reading.
When your child starts bringing home
books to read, remember that they
will be at the independent level. Your child
will have already had instruction.
They will be very comfortable
with the book. It is important to build
enthusiasm for reading. Be patient, shortly
you will see the difficulty increase.
Teacher Time: Working on keeping match in text. When your child brings their books home to read to you, please encourage them to put their pointer finger down under the words they are reading. Please treat paper books the same as regular books. If the book is signed out in their journal it should come back to school in their journal bag after 2 or 3 days of practice reading to adults at home.
Word work We are building up a repertoire of words that your child can read and write. When you see this kind of work coming home, check in with your child to be sure they have retained the high frequency word. If they are unsure, it would be helpful to practice a bit more at home when time allows.
