Saying the word out loud and listening for the sounds in each word.

Please carve out a few moments to have your child read theirs to you. What great kindergarten writers they are!
Working on a very special card!

Lots of steps to make this card. Please help your child get it to the person they wish to receive it. Thank you for your support!  :)

If anyone has access to these containers
or containers similar (with a top)
we would love to recycle them.
Send them on in anytime, thank you!
 Reading
Reading choices
When time allows, ask your child what they
chose to work on during the reading block.
Teacher Time
Guided Reading: We are working on
previewing a text well before reading.
When your child starts bringing home
books to read, remember that they
will be at the independent level. Your child
will have already had instruction.
They will be very comfortable
with the book. It is important to build
enthusiasm for reading. Be patient, shortly
you will see the difficulty increase.
Teacher Time:
Working on keeping match in text.
When your child brings their books home to read to you,
please encourage them to put their pointer finger down
under the words they are reading.
Please treat paper books the same as regular books.
If the book is signed out in their journal it should come
back to school in their journal bag after 2 or 3 days
of practice reading to adults at home.
Word work
We are building up a repertoire of words
that your child can read and write.
When you see this kind of work coming home,
check in with your child to be sure
they have retained the high frequency word.
If they are unsure, it would be helpful to practice
a bit more at home when time allows.
Handwriting Without Tears (HWT) with Ms. Cahill.
Wet try with small sponges.
Dry try with chalk:
Practicing the formation of lowercase m .

Whether you are ready for the colder temperatures or not, they have arrived! Please know we go outside daily (weather permitting). The Pond Cove playground is quite chilly. Please take a few minutes to dig out your child's winter clothing.

*When boots become necessary (rain or snow), please pack an extra pair of dry shoes. Shoes with soles are preferred (not slippers). We need to be ready for drills and unexpected evacuations and in the past slippers have not kept children's feet warm and dry. When needed please send your child to school in boots, to keep the shoes dry. Our routine will be to take the wet boots off at the lockers and store them there. Much of our instruction takes place on the classroom rug and this will help us keep our classroom rug dry and clean. Something to consider: if you have an extra pair of sneakers that can stay at school your child will have less to carry and it becomes one less thing to pack. Your child will always be ready for gym on Monday!  :)
