Third Week in January: January 19-23, 2026 Kindergarten Showcase! (4 Day week, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day)

Sculpting wolves with Model Magic clay is more difficult than you would think!

There was more than one way to approach this task!

With encouragement that they can do hard things, they all completed one!

Some children stretched theirs (one solid piece).
Some children chose to create each body part and attach them by pinching.

Ta da!

"When the work you put in is realized!"

Sight Word Dice Game (recent red words).

Forest animal word search.

Back side of the word search was a wolf to color (if finished and time allowed).

She lost tooth at school on Tuesday!
She was on the playground and brought it to Mrs. Cornell,
so we could get it into a tooth necklace for safe keeping! 🦷

She created this note at Writing & Drawing at centers!

Read Aloud

This one is great to supplement our Animal & Habitat unit.
The children enjoyed it!

On Wednesday the children had an opportunity to add color to their wolves.
Some chose tempera paint and/or water colors.

Some chose markers.

Some referenced our nonfiction book collection to help with accuracy.

It was a delicate project.

The wolves were added to their diorama.

Great cutting practice and we used brads, so some body parts could move!

Finished wolves for the showcase.

Some children worked at Writing & Drawing to create signs for the showcase.
We hung this one together at the entrance of the kindergarten hallway!

All five kindergarten classrooms worked on larger welcome signs!

His jacket has wolves, deer, and other animals.  He wore it for the showcase.
The enthusiasm was fantastic!

Our showcase style was "museum style."

We put out work and some of the books we read.

The toys were props to help the children share their learning.

Frogs

Friday morning these two generated this pond in blocks to help talk about what they learned in the unit.

Frog display

These two created a frog with pattern blocks at the Discovery Table for the frog display.

Owl display

The owl pellets were out to share.
We borrowed the beautiful framed owl from the office!

This barred owl was found in Cape Elizabeth and donated to Pond Cove School.  Mrs. Rosenblum let us borrow it from the library, thank you!

Salmon display

C

Completed salmon in their habitat!
Salmon run: the journey of salmon up a river from the sea to lay eggs.

Can you put the life cycle of a salmon in the correct order?
Do you know where a salmon typically lays their eggs?

We read many fish stories in the unit.

Friday we celebrated another class birthday! Yay!
🎈🧁Happy 6th Birthday on Showcase Day! 🎉

She is counting 8 six year olds & 10 five year olds on our changing age graph.

The treats she selected.
We sang our birthday songs at our Morning Meeting!

These two salmon experts came dressed for our showcase
(created the t-shirts themselves at home)!
Thanks for the enthusiasm and support!

Mrs. Tweedie's fourth grade class came down to see the showcase and helped to give the children practice speaking in front of others.
The older children were very helpful.  There were siblings who were able to come.
Learning about frogs.

Fourth graders learning what the kindergarteners knew about wolves.

The wolf experts share their knowledge.

Mrs. Ham (his grandmother) was Mrs. Tweedie's substitute.
It was fun to have his grandmother visit!

Mrs. Dilworth (our Curriculum Coordinator) came to see
and hear all about the children's learning!

The owl exhibit was a busy corner.

Mrs. Delassandro (our Literacy Specialist/Coach),
listening to the wolf experts share their learning!

Mrs. Birmingham's fourth graders came after Mrs. Tweedie's class.
These students are conversing with the owl experts.
They helped eliminate some nerves.

Ms. Cahill (our OT) talking with the frog experts about their learning.

At Quiet Time the birthday girl worked with Ms. Karnes to select her office goodies!
I hope she enjoyed her birthday on this special kindergarten day! 😀

Quirt Time option: sketch books

Working to get one more wolf completed and in the showcase!  :)

The birthday girl had the option to do all the helper jobs.
She is passing out the library book bags that came back to school.
She will lead the class to the library.  Most love being leader!

After Allied Arts (Library on Friday) was the Kindergarten Showcase for families!
The birthday girl has the salmon team all set up and ready to welcome our outside guests!

The frog experts are set up and ready to go!
There were nerves, but everyone was feeling better after practicing in the morning!

The owl experts welcomed others to ask questions about what they have learned!

The wolf experts are all smiles as they know their families are coming through the door very soon!
They are excited to show their knowledge!

Thank you to all the parents, siblings, and grandparents who could stop in on Friday
to see and hear all about our K for ME unit Animals and Habitats!  I enjoyed meeting several grandparents!  The children were very excited to have you into the classroom to
see and hear about their studies! ♥️

It was great to meet so many younger siblings!

We are grateful that Ms. Karnes (and Mrs. Forrey-Pettit and Dr. Record)
stopped in as well! ♥️

It was a very busy four day week preparing for the showcase.
A fun week for the children!
For those of you who could join us, thank you for coming!
Thank you for carrying home all the delicate dioramas!
For those who may have been unable to join us, hopefully these photos will help you connect with your child at home.

I'll send more showcase pieces of work home this week through the children's Home/School Folder.

Watch for these emergent readers.  It would be great if your child could read these to you at home, great rereading practice.
Maybe keep in a bin and try one when time allows?

Monday has already been declared a remote learning day.
Please remember to send back the remote learning packet on Tuesday with completed (and non completed) work.
It will be used to verify attendance, thank you! 🩷
