Day Two in Kindergarten

On the second day of kindergarten, we revisited The Kissing Hand and completed another project which involved reading a poem, printing our hands, and adding a kiss!  Our new story was Pete the Cat Rocking in his School Shoes.  Each of us designed a school shoe.  This time, we practiced the evacuation drill with the whole school (no alarm).  The children had health and met Ms. Kennedy! Our math practice involved exploring pattern blocks.

Morning Work

Snack in the classroom.
Thanks for sending your child's snack in a separate container from their lunch.
Water bottles are very helpful. We use the filtration station to fill.

Mr. Davis, our Speech Pathologist, stops in to introduce himself
and lead the children in a fun movement break!

The children loved this story.
We designed our own special school shoes!

Our school shoes are hung in the classroom for all to enjoy!

Whiteboards, Expo markers & erasers were introduced and explored.

Pattern Blocks have been introduced.  We have been discussing colors and shape names.

Exploring, repeating.

First Day in Kindergarten

Our first day in the classroom was very busy! We practiced some of our routines (lockers, hand washing, greeting others, lining up, snack & lunch expectations, playground safety, practicing an evacuation drill, mailboxes, Home/School folder, and more).  We learned about our daily schedule and had our first gym with Mr. Shields! We read The Night Before Kindergarten by Natasha Wing.  We also read The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn and completed projects based on the book.  In the afternoon we enjoyed The King of Kindergarten by Derrick Barnes and made the first day of kindergarten crowns!  The children worked hard and were tired!

We read The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn, discussed the book and our feelings, and completed a project afterward.

Generated whole group

Tracing hands and writing how we felt about the first day of kindergarten!

We read this poem and discussed how an evacuation works.
As a class, we practiced walking to our safe spot and completed all the parts of this drill.

Learning how to properly use the equipment on the playground.

Navigating school lunch in the cafeteria.
Each student will be asked to learn their lunch number.
It would be helpful if you practice at home.
Their lunch number is their student ID number in PowerSchool.

Lunch from home means you can go straight to your lunch spot and get started eating!

Officer David Galvin and Mr. Manjourides supported
the kindergartners on their first day in the lunchroom.

Quiet Time follows lunch.

We read The King of Kindergarten by Derrick Barnes and made kindergarten crowns!

Welcome to Pond Cove Kindergarten!

I am excited to be teaching kindergarten again this year and look forward to getting to know all the children and their families! I encourage families to visit our classroom blog often! It will be the spot where I will update you on our learning. You will be able to see the children working and playing. I hope you can take a few moments regularly throughout the school year to share the posts with your child. Please see the Cornell Kindergarten Supply List 2022-2023. Have fun getting your supplies ready for school!
