Fire Safety
We have been reading and discussing fire safety. Members of the Cape Fire Department joined Mr. Shield's gym class to supplement our discussions. We had a scheduled walking field trip to the Cape
Fire Station friday. I hope we will be able to reschedule that. If so, I will list it in important dates.
Scholastic News: Let's Find Out
Firefighters are Heroes
We have read several great books
to spark our discussions.
A treat from the fire department.
When the children turn in their
escape plan they will have their name
in Mr. Shield's drawing.
Writer's Workshop
The children are learning about writing informative texts.
They are practicing using letters as well as pictures to represent meaning.
The children are developing phonemic awareness as they stretch out,
listen to, distinguish, and record the sounds in a word.

Each of the children has a writing folder
like above that keeps their writing pieces
until the next time we write.
Hearing and Recording Sounds
Say the word out loud
write the letters for the sounds
you hear in the word.
Practicing labeling after a great
non fiction apple read aloud.
Practicing labeling in our Lets Find Out
Scholastic News issue.
We are learning that good writers
often label when they write stories.
