Welcome to Pond Cove!
On Thursday this week we were happy to welcome a new friend to our class!
Earlier in the week during Writer's Workshop, each child created a page introducing themselves and we put all those pages into a welcome book. A few children created extra messages at their choice time to pass along to their new classmate!

Welcome Quinn!
I am Madeline.
I am excited to see you.

Quinn,
I like dinosaurs. Do you?
Garrison

Hello Quinn!
Do you like gym?
Idris

Hi Quinn,
I am Pippi.
When I met you do you want

I am excited for you!
I hope you like the classroom.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
We have been reading a discussing the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. Our Scholastic News was also about him. We watched and listened to a clip of Dr. King giving his "I Have A Dream" speech. The children wrote dreams of their own. These are now displayed in our kindergarten hallway for all to read and enjoy.

I Have A Dream ...
I hope people don't get hurt.
I Have A Dream...
I want the whole world to be
made of Velveeta!

I Have A Dream...
to have an eight thirty bed time.

I Have A Dream...
that no one litters.

I Have A Dream...
I hope animals get more food.
I Have A Dream...
people be nice to each other.

Science: Wood

We read and enjoyed:
As a fun culminating activity for our unit on wood the children worked in pairs or small teams to create structures made mostly of wood. For some, Lincoln Logs were brand new. It was nice to see those who had experience help those who did not.

The collection we have here in kindergarten started out rather small and was mostly used in the building center. Over the years pieces have come our way. The collection now allows for the whole group to work at the same time. If you have Lincoln Log pieces that are no longer being used at home, know that kindergarten would welcome adding those pieces to our collection. The Lincoln Logs are now available at choice time. After the whole group work, many were inspired to work with them during their choice time!
